This is the top of a dress box used to deliver an article of clothing to Marjorie Lyon in Brookline. The top is marked Jays Boston and Wellesley. There is a mention of Jays on Temple Place in an article "Boston Shopping circa 1935-1950" by Christine Tuttle Design 12/27/2011. In the top right hand corner of the box is the shipping tag: To: Mrs. G.A. Lyon/ STREET: 209 Newton St./ CITY: Brookline/ STATE: Mass/ CHG'd TO: 6060/ S.P. 36/ SECTION R/ o.k.'d BY 4/3/ DATE: 5/7/48/ HOW SOLD: Chg/ No. of Pcs. 3 Marjorie apparently reused this box to store some of her dolls. There are three stickersin Marjorie's writing: Bellagio (Bride); Martinique (in pink); Martinique (bride). #23 is writtten in pencil |
