Box 1976.1.P061 Boating Activities FOLDER 01 (1976.1.P061.01) The MARJORIE I 1894-1899 The Marjorie I was a 72' steam yacht, built in 1893. (Marjorie I was referred to as the "White" Marjorie by Blithewold staff). Unless otherwise noted, all photographs listed below are original prints. Photo#Photo Description 01.01Newspaper article about the sale of the yacht Eugenia by J.B. Herreshoff to Augustus Van Wickle. The family and friends arrived in Bristol on the yacht and were entertained by the Herreshoffs. Article states that Mr Van Wickle will rename the yacht Marjorie in honor of his daughter. The Van Wickle’s are on the lookout for land in Bristol to build a summer home. 01.02Bill of sale for yacht Marjorie I to Isaac Emerson, hand written on the back of a deposit slip from Hazleton National Bank. Shows two checks totaling $66,441.64. NC 01Description of the purchase of the yacht Marjorie I from Herreshoff, the purchase of the Blithewold estate and the subsequent sale and acquisition of a new yacht. 02.01August 23, 1896 newspaper article - announcement of new steam yacht to be built. attached to clipping is the Newspaper Cutting Bureau form detailing that the article was clipped from the Providence Journal. 02.02July 22, 1898 N.Y. Times article about the New York Yacht Club meeting at which Mrs Bessie Pardee Van Wickle was elected a flag member. It references her ownership of the steam yacht Marjorie. (see picture)/ Good condition. 05ab Two copies of yacht Marjorie at Blithewold dock circa 1895. Sepia prints matted on cardboard. 5a is 4.58 L x 3.25 H on grey mat with 2 white stripes 5.78 L x 4.75 H. Stain in lower right corner of mat, fading on left side of print. 5b is 5.0 L x 2.75 H on black mat 7.5 L x 5.5 H.
