Description of Contents |
This is yet another book in the Blithewold collection written by E.H. Wilson, the famous American plant hunter and head of The Arnold Arboretum. In the horticultural world, he was known more colloquially as Ernest H. "Chinese" Wilson. This book complements Wilson's ARISTOCRATS OF THE GARDEN. (#1976.1.1572) and MORE ARISTOCRATS OF THE GARDEN (#1976.1.1581). Wilson's connection to Blithewold was personal; in 1926 he and Alfred Rehman, both of The Arnold, visited the property and exclaimed over the living collections, highlighting particular species. The author's preface notes Wilson's keen appreciation of all kinds of trees which he describes as "Aristocrats of the Vegetable Kingdom." He discusses trees and their impact on human life, using terms like "monarch(s)" and "noble." |
