This book appears to be identical to Obj. # 1976.1.1592.7.1, THE MOTH BOOK except for the binding material and endpapers. The years of publication for both are identical. The copyright date is 1903. THE MOTH BOOK is written by a globally esteemed entomologist, W. J. Holland, and dedicated to his "honored friend" Andrew Carnegie. Mr. Holland also wrote THE BUTTERFLY BOOK in this series. This volume covers moths' life histories, species capture and preservation, scientific classification, and lists books published about North American moths. There is great emphasis on the science of moths. Occasionally, the author digresses to quote vignettes on moths from historians, poets, writers, and composers. |

Measures approximately 7 1/2" wide; 10" tall; and 1 3/4" deep. The book contains 579 straight edged pages printed on heavy cream stock. Its heft is substantial. Front and back boards and spine are covered with fine-grained glazed green linen. This book is from the New Nature Library Series, but is bound differently than its mate, Obj. # 1976.1.1592.7.1.The front cover of this volume is printed with the title and author's name in gilded lettering. The spine is printed in gilded lettering with the title, author's surname, and publisher's name, plus a gilded stylized moth. Unlike the other titles in Blithewold's Nature Library series, there are no endpapers with this volume. Extensively indexed and illustrated with coloured plates and simple line drawings within the text. |
