15 Volume set of writings of Charles Dudley Warner (1829-1900). The complete set is present. Warner was an American essayist, lecturer and novelist, a friend and co-author of Samuel Clemens. He wrote for various newspapers, Harper's Magazine, The Atlantic, and other popular publications of the day. This is the Autograph Edition #541 of 600 printed by the American Publishing Company in 1904. Facsimile page 6 of a letter in Warner's handwriting precedes the title page. Selections of the set have been edited by Thomas R. Lounsbury. There is an introduction to the work by Henry Ward Beecher. Contents: My Summer Garden; Calvin: a Character Study; Backlog Studies; Baddeck, and That Sort of Thing. Illustrations: 4 scattered throughout, which include an 1897 portrait of Warner. Navy blue leather covers inlaid on front, back and spines with gold Art Deco designs and lettering. Endpapers, front and back, are a combination of crimson leather with gold medallions in all 4 corners, faced with reinforced crimson watered silk. Page tops are gilded. Page sides and bottoms are ragged edged. |
