Volume II of two books in a series written by the most prominent American plant hunter of the early 1900s, Ernest H. 'Chinese' Wilson. When published, Wilson was Keeper of the Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University. (Volume I [1976.1.1570.1] in this series is signed by the author.) Volume II covers plant hunting locations in the Tropics and Asia with stories of collecting adventures relating to specific flora, climate conditions, growing cultures, and some fauna. Orchids heavily featured. |
Physical Description |
9 1/4" tall, 6 1/2" wide, and 1 1/2" deep. 276 pages printed on heavy cream-colored stock. Intermittently placed black and white half-tones of photographs taken by the author. These are printed on glazed cream stock. Book is weighty for its size. Hard bound in dark green faux leather. Front and back end papers in lighter green card stock show identical maps of the world with some countries identified in bronze ink. On end papers, book's title appears across the bottom of both pages, framed in bronze print. Front cover carries the title and author's name in gilded block lettering; spine is printed in the same lettering with the title, author's surname, the volume number, and publisher's name. Well indexed. Illustrated. |
