This book is part of the children's educational series about natural history subjects. Preliminary research leads one to believe that the series, with different authors and illustrators, was published variously in London and New York in the early part of the 1900s. Individual titles are undated. FLOWERS SHOWN TO THE CHILDREN comprises 48 colored plates of flowers and their identifying characteristics, along with a page or two of didactic narrative about each illustrated plant. Illustrations are detailed, beautiful, and clearly labeled. |
Physical Description |
This little book is about 5" wide; 6 1/2" tall; and 1" deep, with 154 pages of heavy newsprint-like stock with deckle edges on the side and bottom, and clean-cut gilded edged pages along the top. Front, spine and back covers are of a spring green glazed linen on hard boards. Front cover is decorated with a pasted-on colored drawing of an (English) daisy plant with roots, leaves, and blooms, framed in gold. Title is printed on the cover in bold gold lettering within a gilded double frame. Title is printed in bold gold lettering on the spine, above rectilinear gilded detailing. Indexed.. Between pp. 68 and 69 is a fraying green ribbon, used as a bookmark. Illustrated with 48 high-quality colored images printed on glazed stock. |
