Description of Contents |
Lavishly illustrated, the book acknowledges the emergent interest in what was then termed "old fashioned" gardens and, by implication, their preservation. Although individual sections are written by amateur gardeners and members of the esteemed James River Garden Club, textual research relied on diverse primary sources. The book is a handsome addition to the genre of early 20th century garden history, with a particularly beautifully illustrated title page in the style of illuminated manuscripts. The compiler, the James River Garden Club, was an early member of the Garden Club of America. |
