Description of Contents |
This book by William Hamilton Gibson (1850-1896), an expert illustrator, wood-engraver, and photographer, is a romanticized first person account of his year in the New England outdoors. It is dedicated to "ONE WHOSE CLOSE COMPANIONSHIP. . . RECALLS A REMINISCENCE OF THE PAST IDENTIFIED WITH MEMORIES OF MY OWN." It is described as '"OUR SOUVENIR." The dedicatee is not identified. The book uses a seasonal framework of SPRING, with The Awakening; SUMMER, The Consummation; AUTUMN, The Waning; and WINTER, The Sleep. At the beginning of The Consummation tucked into the pages of the book one finds a small four-sided illustrated advertisement for Harper's recent and forthcoming publications. (Obj.# 1976.1.1596b.) |
