Half-leather binding (brown leather on green paper); set in center of front cover is leather rectangle with "Lucretia M. Post" stamped in gold. The volume is a collection, apparently made by or for Miss Post, of about 25-30 brief (4-6 pages) pieces for voice and guitar by such composers as S. Carusi, Otto Torp, L. Meignen, Glover, and H. N. Gilles and published 1836-1840, largely in Philadephia. Many are inscribed at upper right in ink "L. M. Post". Bound into the book are two brief handwritten guitar pieces, preceded by notes labeled "Tuning of the Guitar": "Russian Parade March" and "Aurora Gallop". Also found in the book is a slip of blue wove paper on which are written three staves of music, martial in tone, probably for guitar. 13" L, 10" W, 1-3/4" D. |
