Box 1976.1.P061 Boating Activities FOLDER 04 (1976.1.P061.04) WILD SWAN "Wild Swan" was purchased by Augustus Van Wickle in 1897 to be used as a racing yacht. At the time he was Commodore of the Bristol Yacht Club. Wild Swan was an excellent racer and won may awards. The boat was built by the Herreshoff Boat Yard. Photo# Photo Description 01 Wild Swan at anchor off Blithewold. Mansion is at left with boathouse at right. American flag is flying over boathouse, mature trees in background.3.5 H x 5.5 W Sepia photograph, good condition. 02 Wild Swan sailing past Blithewold. Pilings in water, one person in boat. 4.5 W x 3.5 H. Sepia print which was glued to a black surface and later removed. Poor condition, tear and missing section approximately one inch long., left edge. Lower right has discoloration. 03 Bessie and William McKee sitting in stern of Wild Swan. Shoreline in background. 1.75 H x 2.58 W, fair condition, left side fading. 04 abc Three identical photographs of Wild Swan under sail with two unidentified people on board. All three pictures have crackling on right side of picture. 4a is 7.0 H x 5.0 W fair condition with discoloration on upper left. 4b is 2.75 H x 1.75 W good condition 4c is 7.0 H x 5.0 W good condition, less fading. 05 Wild Swan under sail, sepia print attached along top edge to brown construction paper. Photo is 4.0 H x 2.0 W. Good condition, some blemish top right hand corner. Construction paper is 10.0 H x 6.25 W with wavy edge at top and right side. |
