Photo Box 1976.1.P029 Automobiles This is a box containing photographs of automobiles belonging to family and family friends. Most are undated. The automobiles appear to be c1910s. The make of most automobiles could not be determined. Someone with an interest in cars should research the photos further. Photo#Photo Description 01Photograph of Simplex with soft top down, parked on grass. Black and white. 4.25"W x 2.75"H. Old number:76-1889. 1910. Good condition. 02 Simplex being loaded onto a boat for the crossing of the English Channel during family trip to Europe. Letters on car lift:S,E,0,C,R. Two crewmen on deck. Written on back of photo: "Simplex coming from Dover to Dieppe." 2.75"W x 4.50"H. Sepia toned. Old number: 76-1888. 1910. Good condition. 03 Simplex on a boat. A man is standing next to it, between the car and the guardrail. This might be Kroh, a chauffeur for the family. 4'W x 3"H". Black and white. Old number: 76-1887.1910. Good condition. 04 Stevens automobile parked at the curb in front of a house, in downtown Bristol. Soft top is 3.25"W x 4.50"H. Good condition.down. On cardboard, from an album. Black and white. Written below photo, on cardboard: " The Stevens,1912, Bristol." Written on back of cardboard:" Eddie Unrall(?) in a somewhat similar position, 1912." Good condition. 05 Three men standing beside the Stevens automobile, in front of Carriage House at Blithewold. On cardboard, from an album. Written on front of the cardboard: "Same as above, 1912, Bristol." Written on back of cardboard:"(?) in the Stevens." Sepia toned. 4.50"W x 3.50"H. Good condition. 06Soft top truck with a small flatbed. The top on the truck is up and it is parked on snow covered ground, in front of farm buildings. Sepia toned. 5.50"W x 3.50"H. Undated. Old number:76-1890. Good condition. 07Unidentified woman having a picnic, on her lap, on the porch of a small commercial building. Signs on building say:"Moxie" and "Canada Dry." A chauffeur is standing next to the automobile. (A Pierce-Arrow?) Undated. 5.50"W x 3.50"H. Sepia toned. Old number:76-1892. Good condition. 08Rear view of two soft top cars with their tops down, riding along on a tree-lined road. Sepia toned. 5.50"W x #.25"H. Old number:76-1884. Undated. Good condition. 09Vintage automobile (Alamy?) parked in front of a building. A chauffeur is seated in the front seat, four women are seated in the back seat. All four are wearing large hats. Good condition. 10Photograph of several people sitting in a parked Packard atomobile on a gravel road, with the soft top down. Tall trees are in the background. Black and white. 1908. 4"W x 3.75"H. Old number:76-1885. Good condition. Photo was used on p. 109 in "Blithewold" by Alice DeWolf Pardee. 11Two vintage automobiles, with soft tops up, parked at the edge of a forest in Council Cup, PA. Two women and one man are standing outside one of the automobiles. The women are wearing long dresses and hats. The man is dressed in a dark coat, pants and hat. Sepia toned.
