Box 1976.1.A146 Augustine Ephemera Folder 03 (1976.1.A146.03) Correspondence to Augustine 1903-1946 This folder contains letters, postcards, Western Union telegrams, and probate documents, which were sent to Augustine. This folder is one of five folders of archival documents and ephemera related to Augustine Van Wickle Shaw Toland. Letter are generally 8 1/2" x 11" Postcards are 5 1/2" x 3 1/2" Western Union Telegrams are 5 3/4" x 8" Correspondence is in generally fair condition with discoloration and fading of ink. Only a few examples of original correspondance have been uploaded, Item # Description 01Letter from Marjorie Van Wickle to Augustine from the Imperial Hotel, Llandudno, England to Bristol, RI describing travel adventures. Dated 7/19/1903. Book fold, double sided. 02Letter from Marjorie Van Wickle to Augustine from Florence, Italy to Boston with a thank you for a pincushion Augustine made, birthday wishes for her fifth birthday, and news of travel. Dated 10/28/1903. Book fold, double sided; Hotel De La Ville, Florence, and three feathers printed in red on the stationary. 03Color postcard of Venice from Marjorie Van Wickle to Augustine, dated 11/2/1903. It was forwarded from the Blithewold address to 1 Gloucester Street, Boston. 04aLetter from Marjorie Van Wickle to Augustine from Hotel de Russie, Rome, Italy to Boston sending Christmas wishes. Dated 12/7/1903. Book fold, double sided. 04bBlack and white postcard enclosed with above letter. "P.S. Here are two boys eating macaroni - I think it will make you laugh!" wrote Marjorie in her letter. 05.01-.02Letter from Marjorie Van Wickle to Augustine from Grand Hotel de Russie et des Isles Britanique, Rome, Italy to Boston with a thank you for a gift and description of Marjorie's Christmas in Rome. Dated 12/27/1903. Book fold, double sided, two pages. 06"Augustine dear / With sisters best love / + many happy returns / Marjorie" written on a small piece of paper. Likely came with a Christmas gift sent to Augustine while Marjorie was traveling in Europe. 07Letter from Marjorie Van Wickle Lyon, Columbia, SC to Augustine describing her pending move with George Lyon to Greenville, SC. Dated 5/7/1918. Book fold, blue notepaper, double sided. 08.01-.03Letter describing Augustine's wedding to Quincy Shaw, Jr. Dated 6/20/1919. Three pages, book fold, double sided. 09Letter from Bessie Van Wickle McKee to Augustine with news of the birth of Winifred's baby. Dated 2/17/1921. Book fold, double sided. 10.01-.04Four page letter from Marjorie Lyon to Augustine describing her time in Hawaii. Dated 3/10/1925. "HALEKULANI / AND BUNGALOWS / ON THE BEACH AT / WAIKIKI" printed on the stationary. 11Typed letter from William McKee to Augustine Van Wickle Shaw Toland, Whitemarsh, PA. He mentions looking forward to getting together with family at Blithewold. Dated 6/21/1944. 12Western Union telegram to Mrs. Robert Toland (Augustine) from her daughter, Dee, expressing condolences on her grandfather's death. Dated 7/8/1946. 13Western Union telegram to Mrs. Robert Toland (Augustine) from Anna Baechtel, expressing sympathy. Dated 7/9/1946. 14.01-.02Typed letter from Russell Henry Stafford, Ogunquit, ME to Augustine expressing condolences on the death of William McKee. Dated 7/26/1946. Two pages. 15.01-.02Typed documents Probate Court of Town of Bristol for the estate of William L. McKee. Dated 8/5/1946. Contains a list of his assets, which total $16,683.31. |
