Description |
This cup is part of a set of 10 Spode Copelands demitasse cups and saucers. The cups are white porcelain, or bone china, with a dark blue top border. The blue border is trimmed top and bottom with gold and the bottom gold border is trimmed with gold drops. The handle is also gold and the base is striped with gold. Spode china has been made in Stoke, England since 1776 under five different ownership structures. Josiah Spode was the first to produce a new type of porcelain which he called bone china. This set, which is marked Spode Copelands, was likely made early in the second Copeland period from 1901 to 1966. It was made for retailer Charles R. Lynde of Boston. |
