Description |
This is a cardboard box covered with brushed grey-green cloth. It has a top that slides onto the bottom. The box is divided into 2 compartments covered in gold paper that holds two decks of playing cards, both with the same landscape of a tall building set amongst rolling hills; one deck has a gold border and one has a silver border. In gold lettering on the box top is "ONE HUNDRED FIFTIETH MEETING". On the box bottom is "FEBRUARY FIFTEENTH, NINETEEN HUNDRED AND THIRTY NINE. Above this is a circular logo with "AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF MINING AND METALLURGICAL ENGINEERS" around the circumference with a a crossed hammer and ax in the center of the circle. Under this is "ORGANIZED 1871/ INCORPORATED 1906". The Institute was formed in Wilkes-Barre. PA by 22 mining engineers. It is now named the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical and Petroleum Engineers and is based in Dove Valley, CO. The logo has been changed to include an oil derrick in the background. Both the Van Wickles and the Pardees had interests in coal mining in Pennsylvania. |
