Description |
Hatbox with interior label of the box manufacturer: "MARIE ANTOINETTE / by / Warburton / BOX CO., INC. / YONKERS, N.Y." A cardboard tag attached reads: " Mrs. McKee's Hat / 1916 / dark shiny weave / hat with feather " Inside the box were eight brown feathers, which are likely from Mrs. McKee's hat (2012.1.0009). The cardboard hatbox is decorated with renderings of ladies and gentlemen against a background of daytime and evening skies. Green silk yarn passes through metal grommets and is knotted on the interior to attach to the box; the yarn has faded to beige on the exterior of the box. The base and lid of the hatbox are black. Handwritten in pencil on the exterior of the box: " Mrs. Lyon / Ski Cap" |
