| Description | Three-piece dark green an black velvet afternoon suit by Fox. Jacket (a), Skirt (b), Blouse (c). Jacket (a) fabric and self-belt: green silk velvet. Collar, cuffs and lower skirt: black silk velvet. Jacket and sleeve lining fabric is ivory silk satin. Lower skirt lining fabric is black silk satin. There are three black velvet covered buttons at left neck with corresponding loops on right. 14 rows of applied black and silver braided trim at side back panels of bodice. Seven black velvet covered buttons down each lower side panel of jacket skirt (14 total). Construction: Lined jacket is both machine and hand stitched. Loose-fitting jacket has wrapped front opening with self-belt at waist. Long, cuffed sleeves and full, flared skirt at back. Military-style braid and covered button details on back and skirt. The dressmaker label (Fox / PARIS-NEW YORK) is stitched to the lining below the jacket back neckline. Skirt (b) fabric is black silk velvet, the lining and waistband are black silk twill. The skirt is both machine and hand stitched. Skirt is flared with stitched-down waistline pleats. It has a narrow waistband and back placket with hook and eye closures. Two metal eyes stitched to back waist correspond to hooks on blouse back waist. Skirt lining is 9" shorter than skirt (lining is 29.5" long). The blouse (c) bodice and upper sleeves are made of two layers of bottle green silk chiffon, embellished with metallic embroidery. Sleeve cuffs, waist sash, bodice back and front panels: black silk velvet. Lower bodice lining: ivory silk satin. Yoke lining: ivory silk net and ivory silk gauze. Sleeve lining: ivory silk gauze. Sleeve cuff trim: ivory silk net ruffles Foundation bodice: ivory China silk. Blouse is both machine and hand stitched. Waist-length blouse opens center back and has hook and eye closures. Additionally, there are two hooks at the back waist for anchoring the blouse to the skirt. Structured, fitted and boned foundation bodice has interior waistband with the dressmaker label (Fox / PARIS-NEW YORK) woven in. Interior waistband has a center back hook and eye closure. Blouse has long sleeves, a sheer yoke and weighted, draped velvet panels at bodice front and back. Exhibited 2024 Winter "Winter Velvet." Featured in the Winter 2016 exhibit, "Fox Winter Costumes" (12/1/2016). |
