Nautilus Shell Lamp. Bronze lily pad shaped base with twining vine stem to hold a genuine shell shade. There is a brass bead pull. he shell shade is cut out on the back side whether by design or accident is not evident. The base has raised and incised veins. Sotheby's describes this as Art Nouveau and dates it circa 1910-1920. A photograph of the lamp appears in a booklet of "Hand-wrought electric Lamps and Sconces" from the studio of Mrs. Elizabeth E. Burton, State Street, Santa Barbara, California. The lamp was priced at $15.00. George and Marjorie Lyon spent several weeks in Santa Barbara in 1917 after their trip to Wyoming and Hawaii. We believe the lamp was purchased at that time. |
