Description |
Two-piece black day dress with separate blue satin bow, made by Fox Company. Bodice (2012.1.0120a) is machine and hand stitched. Center front, hook and eye opening with high, stiffened collar and long sleeves. Crenellated lower edge detail with covered black velvet buttons at bodice front matches hem detail of skirt. Dressmaker label (Fox / PARIS NEW YORK) is woven into the interior waistband, which has a center front hook and eye closure. Written in ink on interior waistband: "1901" and "B.P. McKee." Skirt (2012.1.0120b) fabrics and trims: Outer layer is same black silk taffeta, black silk lace, narrow silk velvet ribbon trim and black velvet-covered buttons as on bodice. Under layers and ruffles of skirt: ivory silk taffeta, ivory silk gauze and ivory China silk with black silk insertion and edging lace (both machine-made). Outer layer is constructed of vertical panels of black silk taffeta joined with narrow panels of black lace. The edges of these panels are trimmed with narrow silk velvet ribbon, tacked down in loops every ¾". Hem is weighted and crenellated, with black velvet-covered button details. Waistband is ½" wide band of black silk taffeta. Outer layer (described above) is entirely underlined with ivory silk gauze Skirt lining is ivory China silk, with the following layers of ruffles stitched to it: Hem ruffle of ivory silk gauze with three horizontal bands of black insertion lace and edged at bottom with ½" scalloped black lace edging. Final ruffle is stitched to the underside of skirt lining. This is an ivory silk taffeta ruffle with pinking at upper and lower edges. |
