Description |
Teapot, one of several pieces of a "Breakfast Set," a favorite of Marjorie Jeffries. Glazed porcelain teapot with pink roses and blue flowers with green leaves on two sides near yellow boarder on upper edge. Raised collar with gold detail around lip and black horizontal lines in alternating pairs of three. Upward facing spout has yellow tip with gold detail arund lip. Ear-shaped handle attached at upper and lower base with three yellow vertical stripes. Made by Noritake. BREAKFAST SETS: There are several single-serving breakfast sets at Blithewold. Examples can be seen in Augustine's Bedroom, Marjorie's Bedroom, and Estelle Clements' Bedroom. They were widely used at Blithewold following the custom of the ladies being served breakfast in their rooms. The one displayed in Augustine's Room was the favorite set of Augustine's daughter, Marjorie Shaw Jeffries, who loved to be served breakfast in her room when she was visiting Blithewold, and always chose the yellow flowered Noritake china. Typically, each set would include one tea cup and saucer, one coffee cup and saucer, a small teapot, coffee pot, sugar bowl and creamer, small plate, egg cup, and porringer (for cereal.) |
