Description |
One of 14 "Blue Fluted Half* Lace" Royal Copenhagen two handled soup or bouillon cups. The outside of the cups are decorated with the blue and white pattern based on stylised chrysanthemum and cinquefoil. The design includes depictions of flowers on stems, petals, leaves, and ivy. The cup inside is decorated with a single flower on the base floor and a flower and vine decoration on the two rims opposite the handles. Numbers 1976.1.4950.14.7-9, painted by artist 9, have only a single flower and vine decoration on one rim. This cup is part of a porcelain dinnerware set, made by Royal Copenhagen, in the Blue Fluted pattern. Blithewold's set includes about 270 individual pieces. The Blue Fluted pattern was Royal Copenhagen’s first porcelain dinner service, it was first made and used in 1775, and continues to be sold today. The Blithewold dinner service includes three sub-sets of the Blue Fluted pattern: Plain, "Half " Lace, and "Full" Lace. The patterns differ in complexity, with Full Lace having a unique "open-border" band around the rim or foot of some pieces, a gilded rim edge, and may be more densely painted. The Plain and Half-Lace patterns appear similar, so for our purposes, we are calling all patterns of either type, "Half-Lace." According to Royal Copenhagen, all designs are hand-painted. Maker's Marks may be hand-painted, or hand-stamped. For more information: http://wow.royalcopenhagen.us/shop/shop-series/1/dinnerware/4/blue-fluted-half-lace |
