Description |
White christening dress made of fine cotton. This is one of two christening gowns found in a box marked "Shaw Christening Gowns". It was likely worn by Dee and Marjorie Shaw, daughters of Augustine Van Wickle Shaw and Quincy Shaw, Jr., as well as other members of the Shaw family. There is no information regarding the date the dress was made.The dress is in good condition with a small stain on center front. There are stitched pin tucks around the neckline, which is topped with 1/4" lace trim. The puff sleeves have similar pin tucks and lace. An eight and one half inch opening in the back is held together by three pearl buttons. There is a three inch hem on the bottom of the skirt. This dress was donated by Annette Glendon, who purchased it at the estate sale of Marjorie Shaw Jeffries. |
