Description |
This is a daybed described by Sotheby's as:"James I style oak daybed. The flared ends with entrelac panels and raised on leaf-carved block supports ending in tortoise feet." Both the inner sides of the flared ends are carved with circular designs and the side panels are carved with geometric patterns. This daybed was located in front of the fireplace in Marjorie's room and was used by George Lyon. This piece of furniture is noted in the Blithewold wooden album (circa 1910) in the following description:"Daybed: adapted from principles of medieval furniture of the English type. The turtles are symbolic of longevity." p.107b |
