Description |
Watercolor painting titled "Sugaring Off" by Marjorie Van Wickle Lyon. Painting depicts a winter scene of a shack, painted red at one end, with a man in a red coat carrying two pails toward the shack. There are trees surrounding the shack with pails attached to their trunks to collect sap. Colors are white, brown. and grey with splashes of red. Painting was exhibited at the Copley Society of Boston in 1963. As a child Marjorie took painting lessons one summer with Mrs. Lulu Pratt, and another with Hannah Drury, both of Bristol. One of her earliest watercolors was done in 1897 when she was 13. Another watercolor dates to around 1900 when she was 16 years old. Marjorie's love of painting blossomed in her late 60's after her husband, George Lyon, died. |
