Description |
Six drawer marquetry Empire-style clothes chest with two sets of circular brass-and-ring drawer pulls and similar key holes and surrounds on each drawer. Metal-banded columns with full entasis at each end of front of chest. Panels with classical dancers (Terpichore?) in pressed brass adorn heads of columns. Pressed brass bands ornamented with roses and leaves at top of each column. Drawer fronts are decorated with floral and foliate images in marquetry. Ends of chest decorated in similar fashion with addition of stylized birds and large urns. This piece of furniture is included in the Blithewold wooden album (circa 1910) in the following description:"Twin beds, highboy, dressing table, couch, bureau, desk, storied table and cheval glass. Dutch eighteenth century. Mahogany with inlay of foliated designs in colored woods. Old Blithewold." |
